Tsampa Soup delivers the great taste of supply chain ethics. I’m no food critic, but I know what I like!

Yvon Chouinard, world class climber and ethical entrepreneur, founder of outdoor retailer, Patagonia, is expanding his new food business. At this time, his food retailer, Patagonia Provisions, Inc., offers responsibly sourced wild caught salmon introduced in 2012, and organic Tsampa Soup introduced in 2014. I bought a twelve-pack of Tsampa Soup packets for $70.20. Each packet makes two cups of soup.

I took a packet of Tsampa with me into the field for a lunch break while fishing. I boiled two cups of river water using a handful of twigs in my BushCooker, added the full contents of one soup packet, then boiled for another couple of minutes and let the soup stand until cooled down enough to warm my hands without burning them through my titanium mug.

I balked at the price of this soup at first, but I’m glad I tried it. A single packet was satisfying, and very tasty. Beyond doubt, this is the best dry soup mix I’ve tasted. Next time out in the field, I’m taking Tsampa, and maybe some of Patagonia Provision’s lemon pepper salmon, or a tin of premium sardines!

Getting to the bottom of Tsampa Soup, a westernized version of a Sherpa staple. I drank the tasty broth and spooned more good stuff from the bottom.
